Mourvèdre is a Spanish and French variety which is becoming more popular in Australia. In Spain the variety is known as Monastrell, it was also known as Mataro in Australia.
Mourvèdre wines are earthy and rustic, with great palate length and some tannic structure, I believe this encapsulates our Mourvèdre. The wine is aromatic with a superb blend of Langhorne Creek’s earthy, savoury notes and spice with red berry juiciness. It is made to be enjoyed at anytime, but we do believe with it’s fine tannins this wine will age elegantly.
Fermented in open top fermenters for excellent colour and flavor extraction then matured for 14 months in matured barriques. This has provided a good bottle development that can be enjoyed now providing an excellent example of the variety.
Delicious to drink now, however it will develop more complexity with age.
This wine would drink well with duck or red meat based stews or provincial vegetable dishes.
